Rwanda Trip Poems

These are a few of the poems that students wrote while reflecting on their experiences on the 2011 Rwanda trip.

Rewarding experience

Working towards newer and better things

Acquiring new friends and knowledge

New places, experiences, and food (a.k.a. chapati)

Discovering new things about myself

Accomplishing something amazing

Driving in the bus

near death– not us

Ate a delicious chapati

Had to go to the potty

Looking forward to tomorrow

Monkeys, canopies, and no sorrow.

Cruising with Abdoul

Hand delivering 2000 precious books

Interviews for Caitlin

Passing through 1000 hills

Arriving after days on planes

Talking, laughing, and being together

Improving the B&B project!

The land of

a

thousand

hills

in every way.

Oh the Bus

or van or large car

how very smelly you are

but no other vehicle

could take us this far

from speed bump to speed bump

or from clump to clump

of kids calling for us

calling all of you

mzungu mzungu

Oh I hope they’re not insulting you

Cool.

Air.

Smog.

Mountains.

Beauty.

Fog.

Whatever you say.

Mwaramutse.

In Kinigi, Kigali, or Kapanga,

This is Rwanda.
